WHAT IS A DIGIPAK

A Digipak is a patented style of CD or DVD packaging that consists of a gatefold paper or cardboard outer binding with a plastic tray attached inside. When CDs were the mass market, Digipaks were the preferred choice of CD packaging for most major-label artists as they made the artist look relevant and current in the industry. The paper feel of it gave the nostalgic feeling of vinyl which opened a market to an older audience. Digipaks aren't as popular nowadays due to the easy access of music online, whether it's a free platform like YouTube, or a subscription paid streaming platform, like Apple Music. Digipaks make the CD look professional without the bulk of a plastic jewel case.

Digipaks are:
  • Cheaper to transfer
  • Retailers can supply more on their shelves
  • They are intended to replicate vinyl
